This is trekking with a difference – camel trekking in the Thar Desert, in the colourful state of Rajasthan.  We fly from Delhi to Jodphur and explore Jodphur’s imposing Fort and Palace before boarding our overnight steam train to the walled city of Jaisalmer, situated on the edge of the Thar Desert close to the Pakistan border.  From here we venture out on an unforgettable journey into the vast Thar desert, experiencing the life lived by traders crossing ancient camel routes, and experiencing India up close and personal. 

ITINERARY

DAY 01  DELHI - JODPHUR 
We meet upon your arrival in Delhi and transfer to the airport for an early morning flight to the blue-painted city of Jodhpur, on the edge of the Thar Desert.  In the afternoon we head out to the massive Meharnagarth Fort and explore its fascinating museum.  In the evening we evening transfer to the station to board the overnight sleeper train to Jaisalmer.

DAY 02  JODPHUR - JAISALMER 
The overnight steam train brings us into Jailsalmer in the early morning. We transfer to the hotel to freshen up, and then head out for some sightseeing. Touring this charming 11^th century city of exquisitely carved stone architecture is like a journey back in time, and we visit some of its most famous havelis.  Overnight is spent at the hotel.

DAY 03 to 05 THAR DESERT 
We begin camel trekking in the Thar Desert.  As we stroll along atop our magnificent steeds, we are accompanied by the brightly turbaned Rajput camel men who know the desert well.  We explore fascinating, isolated desert villages.  Around the camp fires at night the Rajputs entertain us with their high pitched pipes.

DAY 06  JAISALMER 
Our trek brings us back to Jaisalmer, happy and with memories to last a lifetime.  We transfer to the hotel and the rest of the day is at your leisure.

DAY 07 JAISALMER - JODPHUR 
Day at leisure to explore the colourful bazaars and delight in the many local handicrafts.  In the evening we transfer to the station for the overnight sleeper to Jodhpur.

DAY 08  JODPHUR - DELHI 
On arrival in Jodhpur early in the morning, we transfer to the airport for our flight to Delhi. On arrival, you transfer to the starting point of your onward journey, or to your hotel.  Tour ends.

TOUR INCLUSIONS

Accommodation on a room-only basis in Jaisalmer.  Tented accommodation during camel trek includes three meals daily and all camping equipment.

All camel safari tours as specified.

All transfers by road as specified, including pick-ups and drop-offs at start and end of tour.
